Scientific Name: Betta splendens
Common Names: Halfmoon Koi Candy Betta, Koi Halfmoon Betta, Candy Koi Betta
Family: Osphronemidae
Origin: Southeast Asia (Thailand, selectively bred for Koi-like patterns)

Lifespan: 3–5 years, up to 7 with excellent care
Territorial and semi-aggressive, especially males, which may flare at other males or similar fish. Peaceful with non-aggressive tankmates if given space. Active and curious, they explore tanks and interact with their environment.
Males: Best kept alone or with peaceful, non-aggressive tankmates like Corydoras, Red Cherry Barbs, or smaller Tetras in larger tanks. Red Cherry Shrimp are safe in heavily planted setups, but shrimplets may be eaten.
Females/Sororities: Can coexist in groups of 3–5 in 20+ gallon tanks with ample hiding spots to minimize aggression. Select females raised together for best results.
Temperature: 78–80°F (25–27°C); avoid prolonged exposure above 82°F.
pH: 6.5–7.5 (slightly acidic to neutral).
Gentle, efficient filtration (e.g., sponge or canister with pre-filter) to maintain pristine water without strong currents. Ensure good oxygenation for their labyrinth organ.
