Lemon Tetra
Scientific Name: Hyphessobrycon pulchripinnis
Common Names: Lemon Tetra
Family: Characidae
Origin: South America (Rio Tapajós and tributaries, Brazil; slow-moving, vegetated waters)
Size: 3.5–5 cm (1.4–2 inches); females slightly larger and rounder
Lifespan: 4–6 years with proper care
Temperature: 72–79°F (22–26°C); avoid prolonged exposure above 82°F (28°C).
pH: 5.5–7.5 (slightly acidic to neutral).
Compatible with peaceful nano fish that thrive in similar water conditions. Safe with small invertebrates like shrimp in larger, planted tanks, though juvenile shrimp may be eaten.
Avoid aggressive or fin-nipping fish, especially in small tanks, or large predatory species. Other territorial fish may coexist in larger, well-planted tanks with careful monitoring to prevent aggression. Bottom-dwellers may compete for space in smaller setups.
Best kept in larger schools to enhance schooling behavior and reduce stress.
