Tankei Tiger
Scientific Name: Hypancistrus sp. (L066)
Common Names: Takei Tiger Pleco, King Tiger Pleco, Scribbled Pleco, Network Pleco
Family: Loricariidae
Origin: South America (Rio Xingu and Rio Tocantins in Brazil; fast-flowing rivers and rapids)
Size: 4.7–6 inches (12–15 cm); males slightly larger with longer odontodes
Lifespan: 10–15 years with proper care
Behavior: Nocturnal, peaceful but territorial, especially among males. Thrives in tanks with ample hiding spots and strong water flow to mimic natural habitat.
Temperature: 79–84°F (26–29°C); avoid prolonged exposure below 75°F or above 86°F.
pH: 5.8–7.0 (slightly acidic to neutral).
Water Flow: Moderate to strong current, replicating riverine conditions
Oxygenation: High, requiring well-oxygenated water
Compatible with peaceful mid- and top-dwelling fish like tetras, rasboras, or dwarf cichlids. Avoid other plecos or bottom-dwellers to minimize aggression. Safe with larger shrimp in well-planted tanks, though shrimplets may be at risk.
